RE: #89637-132 Leonard Peltier’s Urgent Medical Needs

Dear Warden Bledsoe,

It has been brought to my attention that Leonard is passing blood in his urine. As you know, this is a very serious symptom. Add to that, Leonard’s past scare with prostate cancer, and you can see why this recent symptom should be taken extremely seriously.

Quoted (7-3-09) from Kari Ann Cowan re: blood in Leonard’s urine:
“I received a disturbing call from Leonard today. As we know, Leonard has had a scare with prostate cancer. He is now having blood in his urine and he desperately needs to have an oncologist examine him. A general practitioner operating in the prison system is not sufficient; he needs to be seen by a specialist.”

I am dumb-founded at how Lewisburg Penitentiary, a federal facility, has managed to evade getting Leonard the required 3 health exams per month. A man of his age, and with his growing list of serious, long-time health conditions, and varying symptoms can not possibly be properly monitored with a mere 1 exam per year.

I thank you for seeing to it that Leonard received his urgent heart tests recently. His supporters from all over the world are thankful to you as well.

His current symptom should be treated as nothing less than an emergency. I ask you once again to please act swiftly in getting Leonard the proper testing he requires via the care of an oncologist.

Sincerely,
